Hi,
This is considered very normal. Studies have shown that at certain stages in a child's development, facination with the genitals, leading to 'touching' them and beyond occurs. This has been known to happen in toddlers right up to early childhood; where the child becomes more interested in something else, or developes a cultural-understanding that people around them aren't doing it (called a 'Schema').

This then stops during child hood (most of the time) and is often re-found during the teenage years as sexual development increases.

So many people, as soon as they hear Masturbation think of Orgasm.
I have to tell you a little story.
My son came home from School one day and asked me what masturbation meant, he was about 8 or 9 years old.
I thought for a minute, not sure what to say.
I asked him if he remembered Pet Detective.
He said Yes, I asked him if he remembered when he/pet detective was in the tent and he was saying Ohhhh, mama Ohhhh, Mama.
He said I remember.
I asked him what he thought he was doing in the tent.
He replied "Playing with himself"
I told him well that is what Masturbation means.

Yes, I think it is very Normal.

I think it is normal. My son didn't necessarily masturbate, but when he was about 3 years old, I always noticed he always had his hand on his penis when he was tired, scared, excited, or just doing nothing.
I ran into a little boy in the mall about a year ago and his mother was scolding him for looking thru the toys holding his penis. Its normal. She was reading too much into it. She was the crazy one, it wasnt the kid.
Yeah, I think kids find pleasure in their genitals, but are not mature enough to understand the feelings yet.

of course it is. most children don't think of it as sexual, just something that feels good-a new sue for a body part.
parents just need to explain to them that it is a private thing they need to do alone in their rooms.

I believe children masturbate. I have also encountered cases where children who have been sexually abused were masturbating. It would depend on the context of the situation, as do ALL things:).

Yes, it is normal but most don't discover it until they reach puberty. Beware that it possibly is being taught to the child by someone. I don't know if a child should be corrected in public or not.

Todlers do this quite often. It is not related to sex ideas...just something they like to do. Any observant parent could tell you this. Kids also pull on their ears, pick their noses and place their feet in their mouths.

Sure there just going through their hormones and it's better than getting someone pregnant when you're not ready or don't have a condom on, and it's just fantasy that makes you do it
