I have a 100ft run from my router and want to link another pc to the existing cable.. can i use a splitter and use both pc's off the same cable? is it possible for them to each get a seperate ip address although it uses one port on the router?

I also have a small network hub. could I connect the 100 ft cable to the uplink and then connect both pc's to the hub? Also the hub will be connected to one port in the router..

If the hub is connected to the router and both PCs are connected to the hub, you should have a connection for both PCs. There isn't a means to do this with a 'splitter'...gotta have a hub or switch.

What happens is that a normal cat5 cable will not allow network port to network port uplink connection if trying to connect the 2 computers to each other with out the use of a network hub in order for a computer network port to network port uplink the way i think you're asking you will need a crossover lan which by the way are more expencive than the regular lan cable that it sounds like you're currently using. uplinking 2 computers to the internet simutaniously without a hub is next to impossible.

I would only use this in a home network, never in a corporate environment.

strip off about 1.5" off the jacket from the CAT 5 cable on each ends. use pairs 2 & 3 for the first computer and pairs 1 & 5 for the 2nd....done

pair 1 - blue
pair 2 - orange
pair 3 - green
pair 4 - brown

* now with out the jacket the RJ45 connectors will not be that secure when crimped down, just keep this in mind...

YES

That should work fine. Just plug in the line from the router into the uplink port on the hub and then run two smaller cables to the two devices and you'll be in business.

Unfortunatly you can't connect two PCs with a cat5 cable. However, if you buy a router then you can link the two computers together. By doing this, you can also share all the computers printers, scanners, exc. If you would like to get a good home router, i strongly recommend a Linksys home router. They only cost about $30 after mail in rabates.

Also if you have any laptops in your house, you can log into your desktop computers by using the router. So basically by buying this router, you can connect all of your computers, their hardware, documents, and you can turn your home into a wireless hot spot.

However I don't recommmend that you do this if you don't have DSL or Cable!

If you used a twisted pair cable then you could connect 2 computers in one cable but only 2 computers
