It is when the air/fuel mixture either explodes or ignites at the wrong time. A little spark knock is acceptable. But too much can damage an engine over time. Try a different brand of fuel or a higher grade. Make sure that your car isn't running too hot. Have the egr (exhaust gas recirculation) system checked, if your car is equipped with it. Sometimes an engine can have an excess carbon build up in the combustion chambers and valves. You might ask an auto parts store to recommend an additive for your fuel that might help to clean out the deposits.

" Spark Knock" or " Valve Ping " is the noise that the pistons make when your fuel explodes instead of burning. That " noise" is the piston skirts banging up against the cylinder wall surfaces. If it gets bad enough ( extreme condition ) it will knock the skirts off the pistons. Either you got some bad fuel ( at that price ? ) or something is wrong with base timing or engine management system. Hope I answered your question.

A noise made by your car. A knocking or clacking sound that is caused by low grade gas or bad engine timing.

spark knock is generally due to either bad gas or misadjusted timing.it it created when the plug is firing before the combustion stroke.take it in and have the timing checked.it may need new sparkplugs
