Yes and No. Whenever you put in a original xbox game the 360 will check the hardrive to see if it has a software emulation to run the xbox game. If it does not, then it will try to download it from the xboxlive website. If you don't have internet, you can still play the original xbox game by going to xbox live, download the software, burn it to a disc and install it on the xbox360. Here's the link to the update http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardscompatibility.htm#disc >>>>>>it has all the instruction that you need.

When MS said that the 360 can play XBX games, it was very misleading because not ALL XBX games can be played on the 360, only SOME XBX games can be played on the 360. Just go to www.xbox.com and do a backward compatibility search. Navigate the links until you get to the list of currently playable XBX games on the 360.

To answer your question: If you have high speed access, then you can hook up the ethernet cable, and the 360 should tell you whether or not there's an update. If you don't have high speed access, then you can either 1. ask MS to send you the CD with the latest patch or 2. you can burn it to a CD and then load it on your 360.

You don't need to be connected to the internet to play XBX games unless you're playing over XBL.

Try connecting your xbox directly to your router via ethernet cable. You should have received one with your 360. Good luck.

nope it doesn't but you have to download a group of files onto it for it to play them...go to xbox.com and they are in there ....hope i helped..some games won't play on the 360 even with files but any game that is a classic hit will...it will only take a few to put it on there and the xbox website tells you how to do it

Well, it depends...What games are you playing? 360 doesn't play all original Xbox games.
