a. Unfortunately, we both know that "Santa's" gifts are determined by the parents' (or parent's) income(s).
b. Kids that aren't spoiled tend to be more appreciative of whatever they get. When you are spoiled and used to getting everything you want whenever you want..... A lot of the happiness that you get when you receive gifts goes away. Now, even though I was a kid that could have fit into the "rich" category, my parents never spoiled me. Now that I am older, I am thankful for that. In the end, I think the kids that are never spoiled end up living the happier lives. (And this doesn't necessarily mean all kids that fit into the "poor" category. You can be poor and your parents can spoil you rotten; I've seen this happen. The parents can't buy food for their kids yet they buy them designer clothes, gaudy jewelry, cell phones, etc.)
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night. ;-)

That's kinda a cute play on words. It makes you think of the story in a different way. If Santa's gifts are the determining factor I guess you'd be right. But in reality a parent's income & generosity determines the gift. I've seen some parents that were poor & gave way more than they could afford to please a child. If the parents are rich that pony, etc. isn't a big deal as it's only a small bit of their resources. Looking at it that way you could say the poor child received more because the parents gave from their need. The rich ones gave from their plenty.

The poorer child is taught moral values, respect for others and themselves as opposed to some of the richer children.
The presents bought for the poorer child are bought out of love and hard work and something that the child has requested from father christmas unlike some rich children that are bought presents so as to impress their peers and neighbours.
In most cases.
What do you deem to be a good present in the eyes of a child?

Not at all.
It depends on how they are brought up more than what material possessions they get.
I know a quite well off family who barely gives their children anything, and another which spoils them rotten. But the children from both families are generally well behaved. Which means it's more to do with parenting then anything else.

Well you make the poor option so awful! If it was that way I'd choose rich and no kids. PLUS, I wouldn't have children if I couldn't provide for them.

All has to do with the amount of time spent with the children and supervision. The poorer can't keep track of their children as well generally, because they are forced to work long hours.
The wealthier also tend to use a different approach to behavior modification than in the poor, who tend to use punishment as modification.
