Well, for one thing, people in 1978 still had respect for other people. These days, respect is rare; especially with teens.

My experiences would have me saying that people were very at ease in social settings back then and we always tried to respect new acquaintances. Over the years I have felt a change in attitude toward personal freedom. I think people need to lighten up and explore who they really are. Then again I have changed drastically from those early years. I was an odd ball and somewhat reserved compared to the friends I hung with. In 1978 we all thought we would be nuclear toast by now. When I went to parties people rarely would ever fight. Michelob was very important back then and was always available for consumption, more so than pop. Call it a social tool of the 70's and for some of us regrettable memories during the 80's. I stopped during the early 90's and became somewhat anti-social but still very active. So I really don't know how the young people socialize these days. If you are talking about Internet related social interaction we didn't have anything except telephones and loud music. We called our friends and went to specific places to interact. In 1978 our parents didn't expect much from us compared to what is placed on the young people of today. They were more interested in getting rid of us. I would have to say that my perspective will be somewhat conservative compared to most. I think that children growing up now have a better chance for success than the 70's generation because of the changes in family structure mainly smaller families overall. On the other hand we were placed in a tougher environment.

Oh my God, there is just no comparison between now and 1978. It was ever so much nicer back then in soooo many ways.
Kids weren't taking guns to school and had respect for their teachers and adults. There was so much great music in all genres. People's values and morals were different back then---much more family oriented. The divorce rate was lower. People took their marriage vows more seriously. You didn't read stories in the paper about somebody taking somebody out (killing)just for the hell of it. Back then it wasn't an overmedicated society like it is now, where everybody and their Gramma takes something for whatever ails them. You didn't have to be politically correct, there was no road rage, or a psychobabble label for everything under the sun.People were more respectful towards other people back then and had more respect for their parents and elders. There were sooo many tv shows that were really entertaining and funny. Like I said, there's just no comparison between present day society and society 30 years ago.

1978! Wow, that's ancient history to the folks here.
Well I remember the Blizzard of 78 as being the most fun I ever had. I had the only gas stove in the neighborhood and all the neighbors came for dinner and brought something and we had our own block party in my house.
There was a great long recession on at that time and lots of people were out of work.
Things just got worse till 1985.
It was the beginning of 2500 bank forclosures.
Dan White killed Mayor Moscone and Harvey Milk that year in SF.
Jim Jones made Kool Aide for his parishoners in Guiana killing hundreds of men, women and children and later a CA state Representative.
The divorce revolution was in its birthing stage.
I always remember road rage...no matter what year it was.
People made it a point to know your business, always comparing themselves to others.
No...it wasn't better than today. Today we have the internet, cell phones, ipods DVDs and what not.
Things are more plentiful and cheaper today because we trade with China now. Payrolls were a third of what they are today. A good wage then was 25K, average was about 16K. Property taxes, car insurances et al, were still high.
Few people owned credit cards.
Few people jogged or exercised.
I believe more people went to church then than now.
Not everyone could go to college then.
It was not a good year...trust me.

lets see where to begin. you didn't have to worrty about all the perverts and weirdo's like today. drugs and guns weren't as bad in schools as it is today. people wouldn't kill you for your shoes. people seemed as though they were smarter. i think today people seem to be more ignorant. people actually worked for a living instead of welfare. people took care of their children and were not afraid to discipline in public. things appeared to be much slower paced. i was a child but i remember. i was 4. good day to you and god bless. merry CHRISTmas.
