Freedom of speech is restricted. You cannot say just anything anytime. The context of the situation demands a little thought. You cannot legally go around yelling fire. You cannot panic the public without cause. You cannot walk into a private meeting and disrupt it. You cannot walk into a church and start spouting your mouth off. Libraries often require quiet. As far as literature and the arts is concerned, good luck. Many statues are pornographic in nature. If I, in the U. S., made a statue of a naked woman and put it on my lawn, I would go to jail. If the same statue is placed on public display in a library, it is applauded as a great work of art. Good luck finding sense in laws regarding decency.

It's very easy to have free speech we agree with; it's much harder to have free speech we dislike. But that is the point - if we have a system of free speech, then citizens must be free to say things that offend others. You have the right to free speech too - you can tell people why the offensive speech was in your opinion wrong.
I support both of you being able to do this, because that's what happens in a free, secular society.
If you want to live in a state where there is a state-sanctioned religion, you will find many; but don't look for that kind of system in the US, because that would be un-American.

Freedom of speech is only useful when voicing unpopular opinions. Everyone will let you speak freely if you're going to worship the ground they walk on. If you don't like someone's opinion, don't listen to them. If something on the TV, radio, internet, whatever offends you, turn it off. Don't send the organization money, and spread the word about how offensive it is. Taking away one of the most basic rights of humanity over "offensiveness" is ludicrous, and frankly, it offends me that you'd give up your own freedoms just to satisfy someone else's fragile little ego. People like you are the reason our Founding Fathers left England and set up a free nation on the other side of the pond. If you really don't like freedom of speech, you're definitely more than welcome to move to a repressive state run by an iron-fisted dictator.
Jack: Freedom of speech refers to content, not context. Nobody's saying you can scream fire in public, disrupt meetings, or scream "Jesus likes rocky road ice cream" in a church. And no, you would NOT be arrested for having a nude statue on your front lawn. Even if you were, the charges would NOT stand up in any court of law in this country.

Freedom, any freedom and most especially freedom of speech.
comes with a responsibility. If freedom of speech is not handled
with responsibility then you stand a very big chance of loosing it.
If irresponsible people continue to do as they have been doing
and we lose the freedom, this forum will be closed. As a matter
of fact Yahoo Answers will be closed.
Once we lose that freedom, well, do the words domino effect
have any meaning for you. Then where are we?
Not here that's for sure!!!!!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS and have a nice day.
Thank you very much, while you're up!!!!!!

Well, if your talking about America, then remember,,, thousands of Americans have given their life in battle for the rights here in this country. Everyone from every religion and lifestyle has been offended at one time or another. It's just life and we have to get use to the fact that people are free to express their feelings to a degree.

Ok, let's start there. No more speeches about religion. Next, no more speeches about your country. Next, can't speak about your school. Oops, can't speak about anything political. Can you see the slippery slope you would be on? Freedom of speech is freedom of speech whether you like it or not. People have a right to say whatever they want, whether it be hateful, racist or whatever. But........you also have the right not to listen. As a Christian, my religious views get slandered all the time. I don't like it but they have a right to say it. If someone tells me that Jesus was a whatever, I am not going to threaten them or have an execution order put out like you muslims do. If you don't like what they say, don't listen......but freedom of speech is a precious right.
Oh, and one more thing......next time use the spell checker.

Censorship is always a bad idea being offensive is a bad idea as well the bright side to this is if he can do this you have the right to be heard which means you can take your choice on how to react do nothing , start a protest , make a video of your own that will be offensive to him and find a way to distribute it fair is fair!

How many comics, magazines, movies, etc have made fun of Jesus, a lot and too many to be count and you don't see many people hating them for it. How many movies, magazines, etc. have made fun of the Pope, at least John Paul II? A lot too. Did you see a global moving asking for the head of those. Christians are more open minded about these issues. Real Christians don't care about because we know what we believe and God nor Jesus need our help, we need Theirs. Do you think think that God, as powerful as He is, needs us to defend Him? No, He's almighty. Start to think in other way and forget what ever people have said, God is God and He'll act as he already told us through the Prophets. His words shall be done.

No it shouldn't. And South Park has bashed Jesus, Mohammed, Scientology, etc. so if you're offended, stop watching it.
Everyone endures some form of discrimination because of their race, ethnicity, religion, age, looks, whatever.
If you live in the US, you will have to learn to get over it.

My freedom of speech says that any religion that starts with Abraham (Ibrahim) is the reason for half of the trouble in thes world.
Abraham suffered hallucinations revolving around a menacing apparition that demanded he kill his kid. His delusional bandwagon was jumped on by his contemporaries, thus begetting Judaism which begat Christianity and Islam. Until we invent a time machine, we can’t transport to Abraham a bag of anti-psychotic medication or issue an intervention fatwa upon him to undo this curse.
