The greater than less than signs are equivalent to equal signs..Just remember to change them if you move X from one side to the other.

You pretend the greater than or less than is an equal to sign, then you solve it and then put back the greater than or less than sigh. How do you know if the arrow is pointing the right way, choose a point and see if it is true.
For example the 3x<9, would solve to x<3. Would the #2 and #4 for x work in 3x<9?
etc.

3x<9. You have too many numbers. Divide bigger by smaller to get x<3.

For the second problem you need to get rid of that +1, so subtract 1.

2x+1>3
-1 -1
2x>2
/2 /2

x>1

For someone who is insulting the answerers, this is a very simple problem.

Answer:
x<3; x>1, which makes 1
You just have to act as if it were an equation. There are no negative numbers, so no fear. When there are negative numbers, things get a little more complicated.

1)3x<9
Divide 3 from both sides:
x<3

2)2x+1>3
Subtract 1 from both sides:
2x>2

Divide 2 from both sides:
x>1

1
I hope this helps and you have a Happy Holiday break.

Above answers are correct. Because '3x' is multiplication (3 times x) you do the inverse, which is divide by 3. You need to get 'x' all by itself, so to get rid of the '3', you divide '3x' by '3'.
