Ok, here's my best answer. The coolant, is better to be drained AND unhook the heater core lines and flush through both lines as for the transmission, the machine is ok because, you can not drain the torque converter unless it has a bolt on it. So, ok for tranny, but you only get new tranny fluid for what is in the pan, and no for coolant.

There are transmission flush and coolant flush machines in use in many repair shops. Generally, they do a good job of cleaning these components. Better than just a drain and refill. A coolant flush uses chemicals to help remove the build up of sludge in the coolong system. A transmission flush replaces all of the fluid in the transmission and converter. But if they are machines that only suck the old fluids out, then they are not a good idea.

The transmission needs a clean filter to work properly, the best bet is to drain this stuff out when the manual says to. Then plan on servicing it again in two-thirds the time of the first service interval. Unless you've neglected service on that transmission, there shouldn't be a problem with sludge or debris. The magnets at the bottom of the pan will also need to be cleaned out too. A flush won't do this. Flushing the cooling system with a machine is also expensive and unneeded. Keep up your maintenance and change it when it's supposed to be and there shouldn't be any problems.

As a mechanic No the machine uses new fluid to force the old out and in turn mixes. Like adding oil when engine is leaking oil you still need to change and nothing beats draining all fluid out first,( and i recommend flushing with water hose) or tranny fluid with plug out.

The machine is better for the tranny because it gets all the fluid out by circulation but if you go to an autoparts store and purchase a bottle of radiator flush solvent which you pour in and run before changing the fluid, then doing that yourself is fine.

the coolant machine is a good deal because it will get all the coolant out and replaced by circulating and filtering the whole system.
the transmission fluid really needs to be drained by hand , the torque converter drained separately and the filter (inside the drain pan) replaced. sucking out the fluid is at very best half a job. The very thing that causes trans problems is a plugged filter.
Engine oil can be sucked out satisfactorily because the filter is a separate unit and can thence be changed. you don't get quite as much old oil out in the process but percentage wise its not a significant amount.

its ok to use a hose to flush your radiator... BUT NOT YOUR TRANSMISSION. Just flush it with more tranny fluid, same with any other fluid you plan to drain, oil too. Machines arent really any better in my opinion. You wont notice any difference in overall performance, or maintenece in your vehicle. Remember, only flush radiator with water, everything else, just use more of the corresponding fluid.

Do you have a radiator problem or tranny problem ?? Is your tranny fluid the proper color, usually red, does it have a bad odor?? If no problem leave it alone. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Draining your radiator doas nothing but waste anti freeze. Messing with the tranny wastes tranny fluid and serves no useful purpose. These things make lots of $$ for dealers and shops and do nothing for your vehicle.

If the car only has 30k miles on it and the trans fluid is black I would take it to the dealer and have them check it out under warranty. Black fluid means burnt clutches. If the car is in good shape. Get a Chilton's or Helms service manual for your car from the auto parts store. You should only need to get an alignment if the car pulls in any direction or your tires have a bad wear pattern. Fuel filter should also be changed.

A machine should remove more than just by gravity. For automatic transmissions, drain also the torque converter. Remove it and have a drain hole drilled in it. Have it plugged and rebalanced.
