Being emotionally drained, normally results from having to deal with something that calls for a lot of effort. For example, if there is a constant argument in the family, it can be emotionally draining. One of my friends said he was emotionally drained, after breaking up with his girlfriend of many years. Emotionally balanced is the way to go.

The divorce left me emotionally drained.

It means that you've been so stressed or you've been going through such an emotional time that it actually makes you exhausted mentally, emotionally, and often physically. Usually a person needs to take a break and relax, get back their energy.
Example:
"After several days of arguing with her family and her boyfriend, Sheila was emotionally drained and decided to take a vacation."

After the arguments of going for the party with small babies, with her husband and family, the mother was emotionally drained off, giving up she agreed to go as she knew that it was impossible to enjoy the party with small babies to attend to., and equally impossible to back out leaving her husband alone
