No this is not unique to our culture. In fact many Americans are less active than many parts of the world. Take China and Japan for example. In China it is very common to see people in the parks doing their morning tai chi. In Japan, excerisize is built into many school's curricula. Soccer is also a huge sport in many parts of the world from Europe to the Middle East to Australia.

Wow. Absolutely not, Americans are fat and lazy and the media just promotes this life style. I once dined with several French people and they asked me what my sport is, I felt like a complete lazy American when I had no answer and all 12 of the French had a sport they have been passionate about their entire lives. I think Americans would like to give the impression that we are active, but in actuality we are not.

do you watch the news? what has been the most reported story of 2006? Obesity in america! There are certain cities that are active Denver and feel the pressure to look good. They work hard to get money to buy good clothes that look good so they need a great body, so they work out. I think that dieting and "trying" to live healthier is more important in america. Look at the anorexia controversy almost on every night on ET and access hollywood.
