I think it is just a PVC valve. That can be checked by taking it out and shaking it. It has a steel ball and seat in it and should rattle when shaken. If it don't then it is a simple and cheap matter to correct it. Just get a coffee can with kerosene or gasoline in it and slosh the PCV valve around in it. The Kerosene cuts the sludge. When you can hear the ball rattle, just wipe off the valve and reinstall. It is a somewhat dirty job, but if you like tinkering in that line it should not be a problem.
A good indicator for bad valve seals is if the engine smokes out the exhaust pipe after sitting for a while, but clears up after running a couple of miles, it probably is valve seals. If you do decide to take it to a garage to have it fixed, have the mechanic do a compression and leak down test. Before doing anything check the PCV valve first.

No, the car running rough causes the smoke to come from your oil filler. It is worn out and compression is going into the crankcase.

ironh 19 is on the right track. You may have a blown head gasket or a cracked head. Don't drive it very much before you get it fixed! It could progress from an inexpensive repair to a very expensive repair in a short period of time.

Sounds like it needs a oil change and filter run for a week then change oil and filter again this will clean the junk out of the motor.

You may just need a pcv valve(positive crankcase ventalation).replace that and your breather filter and if it still smokes you are getting what is called blow-by.valve seals are what goes bad and causes that.Even so driving it should not be a problem however a head job should be schedualed in your future and yes a head job is expensive.Good luck though.

question is, how lots of this is there? in case you eliminate the cap on a working or basically grew to become off engine you will oftentimes get a small volume of oily steamy mist rising - this is particularly prevalent. Are you dropping coolant?

sounds like you got coolant in your oil, you either have a blown head gasket or cracked block.
