In the first season, Jesse's last name was Cochran, but in the second season it was changed to Katsopolis because of John Stamos' Greek heritage.

They wanted to add some ethnicity to the show. The original change was to make Jesse's last name be "Hernandez", but then they changed that to Katsopolos at the last moment.

This was always so funny to me. They just boom up and changed his last name. Did they think no one would notice?
I mean come on they could have written it into the script and made it some unexpected twist. Instead they carried on like it never even was anything before. Too funny!

It was Cochrin. According to IMDB, he (the actor, not the character) asked for it to be changed to something "more Greek."
