The best reason to get a new transmission is to save your car from being a paperweight in the driveway. But really, if the cost exceeds the value of the car, better to trash the car.

i own a repair shop, and if you have a nice enough car,,and really like it,and plan to keep it a lot longer, that would be the only real reason to get a new one,,other wise if i was going to trade it, or not keep it long,id probably put a good used one in it,,i know the cost would be a lot different ,i just bought a new one from jasper transmissions ,for a customer,,it was 1800 bucks just for a transmission,,that's a lot,,but in this business, you always do what the customer wants,,in any business, the customer is always right,,good luck ,have a good x-mas.

well if your automatic transmission is slipping your milage will go down starts will be hard shifts if you own a manual a bad transmission may mean grnding of the gears. It is usually cheaper to replace or repair a transmission than to buy a new car or if you buy a cheap used car you may be buying someone elses problems.

well if u want to keep the car instead of buying a new or used car since it cost too much for the car then there is a point because u want to keep the car instead of spending all that money on another car.....but on the otherhand if u dont want to spend money on ur car which u think is gonna break down soon or something then theres no point of gettng a new transmission and instead get a new car which is etheir used or brand new

Its easier to own a car and pay for the transmission. Rather than pay month to month on a new car.

I agree, especially if you're replacing automatic transmission --that'll cost you a fortune. Better to just buy a new car.
