In may of 05 I was going through a difficult period in my life. As a result of bad choices I got a dui in missouri (where I am a permanant resident) while holding an illinios DL. It was a first time offense and I was barely over the legal limit. (.095) After court and fines and lawyers and substance abuse trafiic school-$2500 later and nearly 2 years I was reinstated in mo in oct 06. Only to find illinios has a hold on my licence. They require a $500 reinstatement fee, and they sent me a packet requiring me to submit to them info it took alot of time and money to gather for mo. Further, when I sent for this packet I sent IL all the information it took to get reinstaded in mo. If I do this it will cost another 250$ for a re-assesment fee, plus a reinstatement fee of $500. All to a state where I did not commit a crime. I used their licence to give the mo cop because it was my only valid licence. That is a very thin stance to keep on affecting someones life the way this has mine.

Pay the money already! What I would do is get on YA and cry about it, like that is going to change your situation. You want reinstated, pay them the money. You were living in Missouri while holding an Illinois license. Were you a resident of Missouri more than 60 days when this occured? If so, why did you not have a Missouri license? This should have been done within 60 days after moving to Missouri. Last, $2500 for a dui is cheap. Average cost in the state of Illinois is between $5000-$7500.

Man and then ppl wonder why the h e l l there are homeless ppl... You practically NEED a license to survive these days...ya know leave it to the freakin gov to F*** ya EVERY time!!! They make it hard as possible to get by.... could be worse tho! you could be STUCK in TEXAS with me!!! haha!! just like this... I live across the street from work... I drive too and from work everyday... i cannot afford insurance on my car ( I know this is bad) because I am trying to bust may a s s andtough it out and get thru dog grooming school so I will be making decent $$. I do not have insurance so I cannot get an inspection.... some ppl do not have money for brand new cars....my car will not pass inspection...( I just spent all my rent money trying to fix it....) even it would pass I can't get one without insurance which I cannot afford...yet... and then (I just got the car and still has a temp tag) I cannot put my new regis. sticker on because then the stupid HPD will realize that my inspection sticker is expired.... which I cannot get because I do not have insurance because I am stuck in this hell hole called TEXAS.. (like a blackole or something) *sigh* Sorry I needed to vent:-) good luck on your deal!! I am not sure what you should do:-(

If you live in Missouri, I'm not clear about your reasons for wanting your Illinois DL returned to you. Unless this is a requirement of the Mo. courts, can't you just let your DL stay at the Illinois DMV?

Secondly, perhaps this will teach you a valuable lesson....but I doubt it.

pay the ramdsome you really dont have a choice as if you are caught driving while under suspension, which is how they will charge you you'll pay twice

research it online. if you have to get a lawyer. it seems redundant to pay two seperate reinstatement fees.
