Yes.
A "happy" childhood doesn't necessarily mean that you were adequately prepared for the challenges that come later in life. Many parents are over-protective and shelter their children too much, then as they have to face adversity during adolescence, the kids don't know how to handle it. Some become torn between adoring their parents because they gave them everything they wanted, and resenting them for not better preparing them for the real world.
Of course, this may not apply to you. I am using a generalization of my observations growing up and as the single parent of a teenaged son, as well as a minor in Psychology for my Bachelor's Degree. I want to point out that some of what you are experiencing may be signs of a more serious psychiatric disorder, too -- so it is good that you are seeing a specialist. Don't hesitate to get a second opinion if the professional you are currently consulting does diagnose a more serious condition or if you simply do not feel 100% comfortable or confident.
Whichever treatment you and your doctor(s) choose, you have to fully commit to it in order for it to be effective. Yes, you will have bad days and will probably slip up along the way. One of the first and most important lessons to learn is how to forgive yourself for your mistakes, and to regain your focus on your goals:
Progress, NOT Perfection.
Good Luck, and I wish you all the best in 2007!

As we go through stages of maturity we go through phases and observe and interpret events in different ways. Whatever happens to us as we get older we are still learning and making decisions based on where we are at that time of our lives. We all make mistakes but it is what we learn from these experiences that transform us and make us better or worse. You sound like you may have a few regrets and very many people do. You are turning your life around and I sense that you are looking for answers to make your life better. As long as you search for the truth you are moving in a positive direction and although we don't always become the person we want over night the evolution has began and we change sometimes without even realizing it. I wish you well on your life journey and don't judge yourself too harshly for you past errors. Remember a truly bad person would not recognize that they had actually done anything wrong. This in itself shows that you are truly becoming a person that you will one day look in the mirror and love and respect. Bless you on this life of discovery.

I was that way and i always thought it was because I had violent and drug addicted and alcoholic parents um and just plain weirdos took care of me as a child.. at least you had the good childhood. I didn't. but I am making damn well sure my kids have better then I did. I also have been to shrinks. just remember you can be ok. you may have to work on it harder then some others. and try to forgive those who have hurt you. try not to hate.. that kills. good luck

Good for you for taking charge of your life. Yes, it could, can and does happen very often. It could be trauma, subconcious and or chemical imbalance. Have you studied dream therapy? Try it...it is often revealing as well as those early waking relevaltions should be examined. Know thyself and the rest just follows. Good luck to you...keep digging for the truth...it is what you know it to be.

Yes it's possible. Growing up is hard and it doesn't mean you went wrong.
I'm glad you're seeing someone. Stay positive and don't expect changes overnight.
