Because movies love to butcher books. I loved the book. I loved Henry most of all, though my friend fell in love with Victor. I'm not sure if you'd be able to find it, but the Hallmark channel made a version of Frankenstein, and I couldn't help it, I had to watch it. It was almost exactly like the book, and it was marvelous!
The main reason movies change books, for one is because Frankenstein is a classic, and they think that if they stay with the story no one will be interested in it. They don't consider all of us who have read the book and loved it, and would love to see a movie that follows the book. C'est la vie.

Books are pretty much always better than the movies. My most recent example would be Eragon. Totally lame, compared to the book. The Harry Potter books are a ton better than the movies, and hopefully Artemis Fowl will be really good. I would completely suggest the Artemis Fowl series for you to read. They are some of my absolute favorite books.

I really loved the book, too. I think, for me, one of the things that turns me off about the different movie interpretations is the monster himself. I mean, when you read the book, did you imagine the monster looking the way he typically does in the movies??!
In the book, the monster is a sympathetic character -- Shelley makes you feel for him, hope for him, etc. The monster in the movies isn't sympathetic to me at all -- he's almost laughable with his big, square head and screws sticking out of his neck!

Books are always better than movies, because your imagination trumps any special effect, sound stage, or make-up wizardry in a way Hollywood never could never put on film.

Books are always better than the movie versions of them. They have your own interpretation of the story, setting and characters.
In a movie you get the scriptwriter and the director interpretations, not to mention they have to adapt and summarize it.

Because the book allows you to use ur imagination which allows ur mind to create the setting, and it also allows you more freedom to interpret what the writer is attempting to portray to u as the reader. With film genres unfortunalty individual interpretation collides.
