internet comes from wall....to cable modem....from cable modem to router....the router splits the connection to your different pcs....so...from router to each seperate pc

As per the other answer, just know that the router has one separate "input" jack, and usually four (or more) "output" jacks in a row. The cable modem has the cable connected to the wall, then a network wire goes between the cable modem to the separate input jack (it should be labeled, but if not, it's usualy further apart from the other jacks on the router). Then each of the computers will plug into the remaining jacks on the router.

All of the above......and use a straight through cable not a crossover cable.
If connecting two pc directly use a crossover cable.

HOW?
look at both ends of cable to see if the colors of the wires are the same pattern or backwards.
