Personally, I find it a talent .... it takes years to hone it. My husband, on the other hand, says I'm just plain mean. So I got him a card that says "I''m not mean, you're just a sissy." Sums it up for me.

I wouldn't characterize it as a talent or a detriment. It depends on the context in which the sarcastic remark is made. It may be well-deserved. Or it may be unwarranted and uncalled for--mean-spirited. If it's uncalled for, then yes, it would be an undesireable personality trait.

It's a talent, if you do comedy for a living, on stage.
It's often a detriment, and more often, annoying
in everyday conversations in everyday life

It's probably both somehow, but I see it as a talent, if only because I'm not too good at it, though I love it :)
