I never heard the quote from Brooke Shields, but I did hear the one that Mariah Carey said. Their mouths are moving faster than their minds. Must be nice to have more money than brains!
Brooke probably meant if you die prematurely, from smoking, it takes away an important part of OTHER peoples lives. Or you miss out on a lot of things because you're dead..... As for Mariah - who knows what she was thinking when she said that one...........

Brooke Shields did make her quote in 1982.
Mariah Carey's quote came from a 1996 phoney satirical interview on a website called "Cupcake." A British publication picked it up and made it sound like Mariah was serious when she said it, but that is not the case. It is still widely circulated as an actual quotation.
