Definatly. There is a story that has been passed down from twelve generations in my family. My family originated from both Germany and Switzerland.
As told to me as I will someday tell my children when I have them...Long ago there was a man named Nicolous Claus. He lived in the mountains all alone after his wife passed away. Now in the mountains especially that long ago, the winters made it very dificult for survival, and many people were poor. So in the wimter he would deliver presents to the children who's families could barely live. He did this year after year, and as a way of repaying him they would scrounge enough to bake something to show their appreciation for his kindness.
Well one Christmas Eve the people of the mountains had the worst blizzard...Herr Claus was trapped and was found two weeks later frozen with his snow sled of toys. Because he lost his life in the effort to bring joy, they bestowed to him the name of St. Nicholas.
When ever I hear a child say they do not believe I tell them the legend and in turn for the tale, they gain understanding and find new hope in Santa. :)
