Specter is also planning a trip to Syria. Do those who criticized Kerry think he a traitor too, or is your criticism reserved for Democrats?

Personally, I think both of them are doing something vital: diplomacy. I was just wondering if the angry cons who were raging at Kerry were consistent or just blindly partisan. It seems there were some of both.

No. if a senator is supposed to legislate, they should know what they're talking about. they should also try to do things that need doing- I the BA is not doing anything in regards to diplomacy, then somebody should. If nobody did it, we would be in a much worse position. Specter and Kerry both appreciate this.
BTW, what would they be traitors to? The Central Party? Or to Bush? because it certainly can't be this country- in fact, the senate is charged with advising and having the final say on any treaties...

The defection of Arlen Specter grew to become into approximately recuperating Arlen Specter's probabilities of having re-elected. in case you think of he pondered deeply and ultimately made the complicated yet principled option to alter events in keeping with coverage issues you're dreaming. This grew to become into as self-serving because it gets.

I have maintained that absent Executive authority, any individual is over-stepping his Constitutional authority in engaging in diplomacy with a foreign state.
It is well-settled law that matters of diplomacy are solely an Executive power.
EDIT: It really isn't up to Congress to step into diplomatic waters, regardless of the job the President is doing.

If Kerry isa traitor for his visit then Specter is a blatant traitor for doing so and knowing the reaction.

Senator Ben Nelson (D-FL)also visited Syria and met with Bashar Assad. I think engaging with hostile countries and finding diplomatic problem to the issues is the way to go. Else you have quagmires like Iraq. USA is in no position to invade any other country now as they are already far stretched in Iraq.

Ruth, our Executive branch's idea of diplomacy is dropping bunker busters randomly over a country's civilian population. I'd rather entrust a decent attempt at peaceful negotiation and diplomacy to congresscritters, even if they're dipstick libs or cons.

If Kerry actually was a traitor, don't you think he would have been arrested by now? It's not like he's hiding or anything.

I am no big fan of Sen. Kerry's but his trip is something called diplomacy, something the current adminstration knows nothing about.
