DUH! It's about the money! First, George Lucas had the original trilogy on VHS, then rereleased them with restored sound. Then rerereleased them in 1997 with additional footage at the theater, then onto DVD. Then came out with the second trilogy. Then after the final installment (Episode III) was released in 2005, released the box set of Episodes I, II and III months later. THEN when cinephile "purists" complained that they wanted the "original" versions (without the added footage) of the original trilogy to be available, Lucas waited a couple of years, then released the original versions of the original trilogy on DVD, but not available in a box set, but sold "separately".
Can't you see how much money Lucas is making? I know the man is struggling to survive out on his Skywalker ranch estate with what little money he's making from his THX sound system and Skywalker sound studio AND his visual effects company, Industrial Light and Magic. Give the man a break! He's just trying to get by like the rest of us....he'll eventually get to releasing all six movies in one big box set.

The 6 dvd set will likely come out next year... Lucas is working on a 30th anniversary set... so he'll probably put all the movies in that one set.

Now if he would just get off his high horse and put the unaltered versions there as well, but in anamorphic widescreen...

The people that own the starwars enterprise are going to drag out starwars as long as it can go. If they release all 6 now it would be like putting the finishing touch on the whole series. Do not look for them to come out with all 6 of them together anytime soon. you can get 4,5,6 together but not the other three.

I have wondered the same.
The closest I have seen is two boxed sets of 3 each (1-3 and 4-6).
These can be found at most any store that sells DVD's.

Because George Lucas is a greedy bastard!

First he comes out with 4, 5, 6 Speical Edition box set with bonus DVD.

Second he comes out witht he excat same thing minus bouns DVD.

Third he comes out with 4, 5, 6 and their own DVD with a bouns disc of the non speical edition.

He is milking all he can out of this, and I assume sometime he will come out with another combination of DVD's, one that will most likely include all 6.
