The babyboomer generation brought about the amazing, socially conscious, and still popular songwriting of Bob Dylan, John Lennon, and Neil Young. Now, with another seemingly endless war at hand, who has the insight, intellect, and charisma to revive the socially conscious and still popular song? Popular music now is all booty-and-bling hip hop without any social consciousness whatsoever - who can we count on to have a catchy, popular melody and lyrics that really make you feel something and convey ideas that you've never had before?

Couldn't tell you, for the same reason you never know when the next Einstien will appear.

Talent just happens, most of the music now is just marketing.

The music of the past ... A lot of it is timeless and flawless!

As a 700 year old Sasquatch, I have heard some of the best and the worst. The world is constantly changing in so many ways. When I was younger, I worried about what was happening to the world musically. Now, it doesn't bother me so much.

Remember what your folks thought of the music of your generation? I certainally do!

Non the less, to answer your question ...

I know for a fact that there are a great many wonderful and tallented songwriters out there! Unfortunately, they are writing what the kids today want to hear. Oh, they are writing the good stuff too! But only what will sell and allow them to feed their families is released.

The 'good' stuff ... is kept aside for when the world is ready for the good stuff again.

Hope this helps!

How about the good songwriters from the 70's/80's who are still around like Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Elton John, Bono, Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crowe, Dave Matthews...the list goes on.
