Santa represents the spirit of giving, and it is that spirit that comes down our chimneys each year to fill our homes and hearts with warmth and love. Santa is as real as love and just as hard to point to.

Yes, Santa is real.
You have heard stories about Santa. You have seen pictures of Santa. You have seen people dress up like Santa. You have seen people buy presents for other people and do other kind things. We all know that Santa cares whether we do good and are well behaved. We know that children who have been influenced by Santa wish well for everyone in the world. Followers of Santa have never started any wars.
If you believe that people should be generous and kind, then you believe in Santa.

He WAS real. He was the bishop of Myra and lived in the 4th century. He used to secretly give presents to children. He was made a saint later -- St. Nicholas (Jolly Old St. Nick).
His name in Greek is Santa Nikolaos; in Dutch, Sinterclaas. You probably know him as Santa Claus (or Father Christmas), the giver of presents to little children and to not so little "children" (the grown-ups!)
Today parents give presents to their children in honour of St. Nicholas, although perhaps many do not realise it and think it is the thing to do at Christmas.
