I am going to be taking care of someone who is having a vasectomy done next week and I was just wondering what the recovery is like for the man and how long the recovery is? The brochure from the Dr's office said the recovery was about 48 hours and that he cannot bath or be on his feet for those 48 hours. I'm planning on staying with him for those 48 hours and taking care of him, but I was wondering from others who have had it done or know if that will actually be necessary in reality. Don't get me wrong, I am happy and willing to stay with him and take care of him (it was actually my idea and I want to do it), but I'm just wondering what to anticipate. You know they tell you the worst possible senerio sometimes and I'm sure it's different for each person, but I'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect. Thanks for your help in advance.

Expect him to take advantage of you caring for him. There are no major setbacks after a vasectomy. He will need to ice the testicles but he CAN walk at times when needed. He does not have to stay off his feet for the full 48 hours. Not even for 24 hours. He will be a little sore on the testicles, which is why he has to ice it. He cannot perform heavy lifting or exercises for a week. he can resume sexual activities after the 48 hours. But don't be too concerned about aftermath. It's not as bad as they make it out to be.

The normal recovery is very quick with minimal discomfort but the key is to take it easy, very easy, for the first 24 hours. Problems can occur if one decides to return too quickly. This is easy to do because one feels normal. The worst part is mental and as you want to protect the family jewels. the worst urination is kinds scary but there was not pain associated with it. This was 15 year sago and I can imagine they are even better today.

You tend to walk gingerly for a few days which probably helps the recovery.

Had a friend who felt so good he went jogging and they swelled up like beach balls.

I would suggest minimize walking and lifting any thing. Lick back and watch the tube or read.

POST VASECTOMY INSTRUCTIONS

For the next two days, chill out and take it easy. The tiny opening made in the scrotum may bleed a little bit, so wear a suitable bandage or a small gauze pad in your underwear. (mine didn't bleed at all, yours might)

Don't be a pussy and whine about your discomfort (if any). While it takes balls to be vasectomized, your wife has delivered children and this procedure just can't compare to that (if your partner has never had children, go ahead and whine, might as well go for it).

For two days following your procedure, you will quickly learn the "Vasectomy Shuffle", go with the flow.

Your scrotum may swell. Place ice packs on your scrotum, every 20 mins for 1 to 4 hours to help reduce the swelling and pain. I've heard from friends that frozen peas work well for this. (I didn't experience any swelling and ice wasn't necessary, your experience may be different)

You should wear snug fitting Jockey type briefs 24 hours per day for the first week. Of all the post procedure instructions I've read, this one is the best. I had no discomfort at all after the first night, as long as the briefs were on.

Call your doctor if your pain is persistent and not relived by pain medication.

Call your doctor if you notice persistent bleeding or swelling larger than a marble sized area around the opening in your scrotum.

You can shower anytime after the procedure. No hot tubs, bathtubs or pools for the first week.

You can resume sex as soon as you feel like having it. (The post care instructions all vary on this point: some say right away, some say a week. I was at it again on the second day after my procedure. You be the judge.) But remember that you're not sterile right away. For tips on temporary birth control Click Here

If you're a Famous Porno Star (perhaps not so famous, just hung like a horse) or have a job requiring manual labor, consult with your doctor about the best time for you to resume work.

Return your semen specimen to your doctor after 20 ejaculations, and then one month later. You're not sterile, until your doctor says you are. The quickest way to flush out your system of sperm is to _______, like a rabbit.

My husband had a vasectomy done. He was sore for about a week, but never was he debilitated in any way. He didn't even need a Tylenol.

My dad went back to work the next day, had zero pain and was like he had nothing done. He said coming out of anathesia was worse than recovery.

He probably will just want to stay in bed for the first day. He may be sore and walk funny the second day, but otherwise he will be fine. He should be able to take care of himself, only he may want you to bring him things so he doesn't have to walk as much.
