Well, it means they never were a true goth in the first place, and they have a low self-esteem. Goths hate emo, and vise-versa

They sound confused and lonely, and it is just a faze that they will eventually grow out of. Seriously, how many adult Goths or Emos do you see walking down the street today!!! In my opinion, Goths and Emos are young people who feel outcast (whether by their own inner turmoil, or because they are different, and their peers, who generally are followers of the norm) and have found a "Club" for them to belong to. Sadly, there is a lot of misguidance in some of these groups, and sometimes they can be quite destructive to themselves (usually) and to others (unusually).

It basically means they don't have enough confidence in themselves, and identify themselves by whatever the closest trend to who they are is, rather than trying to figure out who they really are.
Alternately, it *could* mean they were emo before there was emo and they tagged along on the goth thing just because it was 'close.'

They aren't either at all. If your emo, your emo and thats you, you cant just keep changing between emo, goth, punk, etc. Cause if you do you are a wannabe.
