i used a different computer to "creat" the library on my ipod, but now i want to put the library onto a computer that has never had a library on it before. Is there an easy way to do this without using discs?

I'm hoping to do the same thing shortly and been researching the problem. For now it doesn't look overly promising, but here is a Yahoo!Answer which may help.

OK THIS CAN BE DONE!!!
Follow the instructions carefully...

Start with the iPod disconnected from the computer. DON'T CONNECT IPOD YET.

Open iTunes.

Open iTunes Preferences - this blocks iTunes from seeing an iPod connection; leave the preferences window up and running.

Connect the iPod to the computer, wait about 15 seconds before continuing.

Open 'My Computer'.

Tools menu, Folder Options, View tab, enable 'show hidden files /folders'.

Open iPod icon in My Computer.

Open iPod_Control folder.

You should see a folder named Music.

Drag this folder to somewhere on your computer hard drive.

After the copy completes, right-click the new Music folder on your hard drive and Select 'Properties'.

Clear the checkmark next to 'Hidden'.

Close that explorer window.

Eject iPod from System tray using the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon. This icon looks like a small gray rectangle with a green arrow floating above it. Right-click & select 'Safely remove' then click 'Stop' in the next window, ‘OK’ in the next window, and then Close to complete the ejection.

Disconnect the iPod from the computer.

Go back to iTunes, cancel the preferences window.

Then go... File menu \ Add folder to Library \ find that Music folder copied over from the iPod. Click add and it will then move all the copied music into your library. You can then delete the copied 'Music Folder'.

Your iTunes library should be back in action!

Ive had this take place to me till now, first of all what variety of iPod do you have? this could properly be a needed step. If that is an iPod nano acquire iPod to laptop then flow into itunes and hit settings do no longer go out this or your library would be erased. Then open Ipod2PC and it will locate all your podcasts, video clips, playlists, songs, etc. It autimatically syncs it into your library and BAM your waiting to flow!

Plug it in and iTunes knows what to do. Just a big warning, this will erase all of your music and everything on your iPod. Good luck. Also, try google and Apple.com.

umm... no, actually.
you need disks.

It's Apple's way of making sure that you don't freely transfer their songs.
