They are there fighting against terrorists that would otherwise attack us on our soil if we don't fight them over there. Saddam Hussein could have very well planned an attack on us just as Bin Laden did on 9/11. Ten years ago, we never thought it possible that BL could attack us considering how far away he is, but he did. He has his Al-Queda network working for him. Who's to say Hussein couldn't have done the same? Our troops are over there fighting against those that hate us because this country stands for freedom and liberty - the terrorists are against those things. The terrorists do not want Iraq to be free and have a democracy. That is why they want so much for us to get out of Iraq - so they can overcome it, start another evil regime and go back to the pre-war days.

I agree. The Bush Administration has been trampling all over the Constitution and using terrorism as an excuse to do it. The troops are fighting for our freedom thing is just another lie by the Bush Administration to gain support for the mess we have in Iraq. Besides, the military is suppose to defend the country it is up to the people to preserve the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. Even fight against an oppressive government if we have to.
And yes I did do my time in the military and have always felt this way.

There are people in the world that want to kill you. Not because you ever did anything to them or their families but because you believe in a different god or perhaps you're an atheist. Why crash planes into the world trade centers? Did the people working there ever harm the individuals that took control of the planes?
Why the first attack on the World Trade Center or the US Embassies or the USS Cole? There are people in the world that just want to destroy you because you're an American, and they can't stand the freedom of religion and all the other freedoms the Constitutions grants to you, as an individual. Just look at Somalia where you can lose your head for not praying five times a day!!
Congress passed all the legislation you're complaining about, not the President!
If you think the troops are really not fighting for your freedom , I ask you to re-consider.

Because they want to believe that they are the only moral entity in the world, but sadly they're mistaken. They have unknowingly become that of which they so desperately struggle against, a "terrorist organization." Only, they tricked the "free-world" into believing a lie to accomplish their goals without reprisals. That is why America is so hated by the other Countries of world! We should have tried to correct our mistake once it was made, but instead we followed the lead of our failed President, and his warped perspective and "stayed the course" to no avail for over a 6 year period thus far! We have failed ourselves, the Iraqi people, and the rest of the world. We should pull out, replenish our reserves, and strengthen our economy. Then elect a responsible, sensible, Visionary to the office of President who will reestablish the integrity to our Country loss during the Bush years...

If a truth is obvious, nobody need tell us. If a truth is either not obvious or (in fact) does not exist, then people would keep screaming it exists.
Since US troops are definitely not fighting for our freedom (nor for making US safer nor for demolishing WMDs), the crooks who planned the whole thing must keep telling us lies. They do this to (1) make themselves believe it is true, (2) to try to convince us, and (3) to justify their actions to avoid impeachments.

that's a touchy question as we all want to support the troops that are doing the jobs they are assigned to do. But, as most of America knows, Iraq was not a threat to the U.S. In that respect, the troops are not fighting for our freedoms.

I can only suppose that they do so because they are encouraged that you will recover from your dementia and understand logic at some point. The entire Arab-middle east is the enemy of the west, Europe, America, and it's allies. All of these Islamic-fascist countries have had long standing mandates that call not only for Israels destruction, but that of the USA. Most people like you have been ignoring these threats for over fifty years now.

I don;t fear any of those acts.. it's amazing how at ease i feel .. maybe its cause i have nothign to worry about i am up to no illegal activity.. i don't call Ahmad the suicide bomber on the tele, I don;t send emails about bombmaking, and i have never threatened the life of a president current or former....
the troops are fighting for you freedom.. your freedom to spout off inane dribble , you arent in a stocade or shot in the head in the middle of the night so apparently you ARE free.

You're absolutely right.
(I'm listening to Bob Dylan's "blowing in the wind" right now so this question seems particularly relevant.).
To answer the question, though, "people" tell you this because there is a very strong political machine trying to push that message, and it is having some success. The same machine pushes the "WMD" theory, the "Mission accomplished", the "Stay the course", and now the "temporary surge" mantras. The people behind this machine make a lot of money on oil!

See, the Iraq army was about to load millions of troops onto the vast Iraqi Navy and sail unimpeded to our shores where they would have invaded, occupied, and taken our freedoms. Thankfully we stopped them just in time.
