No it is not, IF you have a special kind of tie down or have the dog in a crate that is secured. Otherwise it is illegal to allow the dog to be in the back of the pick up lose or tied down in a way that it could fall over the edge or jump out. Why you might ask...

Years ago when I worked for Cal Trans we use to have to go out and scrape "10-32's (dead animals) off the HWY and Freeway. Usually dogs that fell out of some stupid a$$ holes truck. If they were not dead when they fell out another vehicle would come along and finish them off or we would have to. If the dog was huge we would cut it up on the spot load the pieces and dispose of it. We would prefer you take your dog home with you, alive.

Have you ever seen what a pet looks like after it hits the street from a moving vehicle? Not pretty. It is too bad that some animal owners require laws to be responsible animal owners. Makes you think that we should have even better laws and force you all to take a test like you do for a drivers licence and see if you are smart enough to own a pet.

definite i trust it may nicely be unlawful for any animal to be interior the decrease back of a truck. i'm sorry yet not basically the disadvantages to the animal falling out and being killed yet besides the cruelty of putting a canines into the mattress of a truck that would were sitting interior the nice and cozy temperature of the solar, bypass take your shoes off and stand interior the mattress of a truck that has been interior the ninety degree warmth for 0.5 an afternoon and word how comfortable that's, canines paws are extra delicate to warmth and chilly and it hurts them and may reason burns on the pads of their ft. Be to blame and take care of the canines as you'll take care of a baby. basically my opinion.

If I remember correctly I believe it is as long as they are tethered on a short enough leash that they can't jump over the sides, but you still might want to check with PD.
