Star Trek franchise. The first Star Trek movie was pretty lame- a big scale remake of a mediocre episode with pretty horrible costuming, etc. The rest got better!

Batman franchise. Of all of the Batman movies, only Batman Begins comes close to either being a decent movie or in the spirit of the comics (for most of their history).

King Kong (2005) is a far better movie than any of the others ('62. '66, '76) except maybe the very first (1933)... and possibly, MAYBE even better than the first!

Fast and the Furious (2001) was better than the original 1955 version, which was made as a B movie in the first place.

The new Spider-Man movies (2002 and more recently) are all better than the older tries.

vanilla sky was better then the original which was in spanish, and it was a good movie but it was just so much better remade with a better budget. As far as sequels star wars 4 was better then 3 in 3 the story felt a little rushed and in 4 there was more action and you learnt a lot about the jedis and such it was very good

Richard Lester's 3 Musketeers, and the sequel The 4 Musketeers. that is greater effective than any previous variations, and WAYYY greater effective than the 1990's version with Charlie Sheen and Chris O'Donnell. additionally the 1990 Treasure Island with Charlton Heston, and the 1960's Mutiny on the Bounty have been greater effective than the unique variations.

Evil Dead II

It is titled as a sequel, but it is almost like a remake of the first one; as if the first never happened. Both are terrific, but the 2nd is better.

"Batman Begins" was by far the best Batman movie. Star Trek IV was the better than the first three Star Trek movies. The Indiana Jones movie with Sean Connery (not sure if that was the third or fourth) was definitely better than the second one.

I can't think of a single instance. All remakes are inferior by definition. They do not reflect an original concept, they are effectively a plagerized copy.
