I never found an effective over-the-counter pain reliever when I had this problem. I ended up having emergency surgery because I waited too long to treat the cysts medically. I nearly died and ended up in the hospital for over 5 days.
I assume that she has tried the birth control pill (which sometimes will help prevent the cysts and shrink the existing ones). And that she has tried every other option that her doctor has recommended - there are hormone therapies and other, newer treatments.
Pain may be the most obvious problem, but it is not the most significant one caused by ovarian cysts. These cysts are filled with pus and 'poison' and if one or more get large enough and burst you are looking at a systemic infection that she can die from.

Those are some sites with good info - I hope all this is helpful.
Listen - I know that pain - Do what you can with the OTC drugs, heating pads, whatever. But when she needs the Vicodin, she needs the Vicodin. I stay away from painkillers as much as I can, I spend a lot of time in a hot bath tub or laying down with ice on etc. but ultimately you get through it with whatever it takes.
Good Luck - Hope this helped somewhat.

Well, I can tell you from experience that the only thing that stopped my pain from them was having a hysterectomy, but then again the doctor that did the surgery found that my left ovary was attached to my colon!!! As for pain relievers, I am not sure what is best that is over the counter. I have heard that Aleve is a good one (but I can't take it so don't know for sure). I know that Advil is a good one, but it can affect the kidenys if you take too much of it for too long.
I would say that the best thing for your wife to do is to talk with her doctor and find out what is over the counter to alleviate the pain other than Vicodin since that is a narcotic that can become addictive, and also make you very groggy and out of it (as I am sure you have seen if she has taken it).
Ummmm, something else for you, tho. When writing things on here, don't put it in all capital letters. Otherwise, it is considered shouting/yelling. It is one thing to have only one word all capitals to make a point, but totally another to have all of them that way. The same rules for e-mail apply in this site: no capital letters unless you are emphasizing something specific.

I take lots of Advil (maybe too much) when I am having pain contributed to ovarian cysts. If they are too bad, then she might need to go to the ER. I had a huge one burst one time and sent me to the ER and developed an infection that kept me in the hospital for 5 days. Stress makes the pain worse, so have her take a bath or anything that she enjoys to try and relax.

okay, i don't know about pain relief, but red raspberry tea is the best thing to drink for female reproductive health. pure cranberry juice is good too. they promote healthy reproduction function and healing. something for the long run, i suppose.
keep taking the vicadin--pain control is very important surgeries (i'm guessing)
good luck

I have the same problem and sorry but I haven't found anything other than the pain pills. She can try using a heating pad on the area that seems to help me. Wish I had better news if you do find something that works Please let us know
