Me and my kids used to see 2 for 1 all the time. I was a single Mom and we rarely had any money to spend for movies so when we splurged, we always saw the 2nd one "free."

I just answered a question like this...but no, I wouldn't risk it. I have noticed though that they never check your tickets!
