Just get to know him first. Nothing romantic; just make sure you're not total strangers. Then ... ask him out. Literally ask him if he would like to date you. There's no huge trick to it. Simple is the way to go.

If you're asking this question on the math board because this boy is the best math student in your school, then, trust me, he is as starved for dates as you are. Asking him out will be the high point of his school year.

Don't rely on giving him hints, he may not get them and you will think he's not interested. Find something he likes to do and ask if he can show you how to do it. Of course you could take the direct approach and just ask, but many find this too intimidating.

try plottin ur attraction vs time graph, if its a linear graph just take the slope, ur constant shuld be in attraction per unit time, this number tells u the exact time. if ur graph is an exponetial graph, damn ur attraction would grow into love of which u have to ask him immediately since it would be hard when the graph starts growing fast......if the graphs r hard to plot use equations...anywayz u shuld get started....

Man, if a cute girl asked me out, I don't think I'd care "how" she did it. Unlike math, there would be no wrong approach.

if you are real old ask quickly before you croak
if you are shy just bat those eyes at him
if you are good looking you should not have to
and if you are ugly im not interested in taking you out either

No known mathematical relevance to your question.
One initial step could be saying a variation of "Hello" and see where that leads...
