He's a little soft and melting as we speak. He was having cold shrinkage, but this is even worse. I don't want him to be a puddle on Xmas morning. Does anybody sell snow at this time of day?

Put a coat on him. Seriously! Mythbusters did that on their Christmas special. Very effective.

Even where it's very cold, the ice and snow will slowly sublimate -- to directly from a solid state to a gas (water vapor). Exposure to direct sunlight will speed that process quite a bit.

So for the longest life, build him in the shade and put an old coat on him.
