I jpegged & emailed a photo. Then I downloaded photo from JPEG image, enlarged & printed it. Doesn't look as clear.

First, use your camera on a higher resolution setting, see your user manual for details on how to do this.

Second, save the original files straight from the camera to the computer in whatever format it saves it in. Then turn DUPLICATE copies of the photo's into jpegs for emailing, web use, etc. jpeg is a lossy format, which means it loses quality everytime it is saved.

A non-lossy format (bmp, tif, etc) can be enlarged slightly without loss of quality, but if you use your camera on a high resolution setting, you should have no problems printing good quality photo's up to 8x10 at least, and often larger.

Anytime you enlarge an image, be it a .bmp, .jpg, .gif, or whatever, the enlarging of it causes it to appear less sharp and detailed. The image is only going to be as sharp and clear as the original, in it's original size. Anything larger and you get a loss.

dont save the image as JPEG ... let it be in your default digicam software and print from that software
JPEG is a compressed form of the original image , which has reduced quality .
