If its not better than the original then leave it alone. Sing it the way it was supposed to be sung.

It's just like anything else...some remakes of songs--any song from christmas carols to cover versions of Beatles songs--are very well done, and others suck.

For example, the Smithereens do a very good version of Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer, and I think Elvis does the best rendition of Blue Christmas.

The original Little Drummer Boy (by the Harry Simeone Choral) is still the best, but I also like the way Joan Jett recorded it. Ditto for Angels We Have Heard on High, by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

But you are absolutely right, some of the version are just plain horrible--Disco Joy to the World comes immediately to mind, as does Christina Aguilera's hatchet job on The First Noel.

My advice--enjoy the gems, and understand that you wouldn't be able to really enjoy them without the turkeys to compare them to.....and have a Holly Jolly Christmas.

Some remakes are bad and some are good, it just depends on your taste in the type of music the remake is, but as some people have said, nobody is stopping you from listening to the old versions. But I understand what you are saying. One of my favorite if not my favorite Christmas Carol, is Oh Come Oh Come Emanuel, but I heard someone on singing it with the melody totally changed. It was so disgusting.

I agree. Some things are best left alone. How could someone even think about messing with Silent Night?

They have ruined all the "classics." Wished they would move onto other songs and leave these alone.

If you prefer the traditional versions nobody is putting a gun to your head forcing you to listen to updated, more popular versions.
