1. Do you have iTunes already installed? Is it the most recent version?

www.apple.com/iTunes

Sometimes the iPod's software needs updating--it is a different type of software than what iTunes is. To see if your iPod software needs updating, go to Start-->Apple Software update.

2. Try a different USB port and check to see if the cord is all the way into the port. Or try a different USB cord, if you can get your hands on another cord.

3. Your battery may not have any remaining power. You should see if you can get your hands on a iPod wall charger. OR leave your iPod attached to a PC. Eventually it should show up in your Source List if you keep it attached via USB cable.

If none of these work, flip the HOLD swtich on and off. Then mit MENU and SELECT until the Apple logo shows up. You may feel some parts moving but the iPod is resetting itself.

Hopefully one of these tricks works.

First, check that you didn't accidentally move the "Lock" sliding switch (top-right)...this will prevent playing, and appear to have frozen.
Slide the Lock switch to red and back, then hit play.

Once the battery has gone dead, the unit will reset...some songs can make it freeze, and some accessories have a relating problem that does the same.

Notice which song is in the play window, and delete it once you're up-and-running again.
