My mom is here visiting us in Florida...spending the day with my family and cooking all day and will have dinner on the lanai in 80 degree weather.

Christmas morning to me has always meant warm, made-from-scratch pancakes with maple syrup and bacon. My dad also makes hash browns, eggs, and sausage, but I never got into those.

It means waking up to my stocking propped up against my doorframe because it's too full and heavy to hang from the mantelpiece anymore.

It means sitting in my pajamas opening presents in turn with my family. Now, that only means my parents and I, because my sister moved away. But they said my fiancé could join us this year because this is his first Christmas away from his family. We all consider him family here, too, even though we’re not yet married. My parents consider him "the son they never had."

I would like to clarify, though: I did grow up Catholic, but I am now Pagan, so the only reason I continue to celebrate Christmas is out of family tradition. It was never a big religious issue with my parents anyway; it's always been more of a "spend time with your family and celebrate the love we share," rather than anything to do with Jesus.

Merry Christmas everyone, and blessed Solstice, too!

I'm going to Midnight mass, play secret Santa, then home to bed. Later in the day, I'm going to sit with my hot cocoa in front of the fireplace with my 3 kitties, listen to Christmas music, and going thru some nice books that I got as gifts.

I will open a few presents in the morning and go to work in the afternoon. I guess the really good present is the overtime pay I will be getting for working the holiday.

OUR TIME BEGINS ACTUALLY ON CHRISTMAS EVE WITH A TENNESSEE CHRISTMAS. WE OPEN PRESENTS FROM MY HUSBAND'S FAMILY THAT THEY SENT. THEN THE TRADITIONAL ONE GIFT FOR THE GIRLS WHICH ARE NIGHTGOWNS.

NEXT MORNING THE REST OF THE PRESENTS ARE OPEN AND WE HAVE INVITED ANOTHER FIRST YEAR TEACHER THAT MOVED HERE TO S.W. KANSAS AS WE DID FOR CHRISTMAS MEAL. THE REST OF THE DAY WILL BE REFLECTING ON THE MEANING OF THE DAY AND ENJOYING WHAT BLESSINGS WE RECEIVED.

Mmm.
Sleeping in, kinda, till about seven....
Getting up, ripping wrapping paper off gifts....
Running around screaming and squeling delightedly in my excitement over all my gifts....
Then eating....
Hopefully my guy will show up....
Then hours of delight.
Merry Christmas!
