i paint really small stuff - boat and car models, mini statues less than 2 inches high, etc. how and where would i go about turning this in depth hobby into a career? i am certain that if i knew where to apply, i could excel at an position painting small objects, but i dont even know where to begin. Thanks.

Try checking with companies that produce figurines and models. A company like the Franklin Mint that produces limited edition, hand made models/figures often use the fact that their items are hand painted as a marketing technique so they obviously hire painters. I have no idea what qualifications you'd need but that would be one place you could look.

EDIT: Here's the mailing address for the Franklin Mint if you want to give it a shot and ask them. When you write let them know that you'd like your letter forwarded to someone like the Art Director or anyone else in charge of hiring artists.

You could also check the second link I've provided. It lists a couple of National/International miniature associations that may be able to direct you on places that might need your expertise.

EDIT #2: You might also try selling what you've painted online. The third link below is from a site that does just that. You can check it out and maybe get some ideas.

go for it and try. but dont spend 2 much time on it or when u fin something u really want 2 do than u cant really do it.

great answer from ditigal, you could also have somebody construct your own website, with small objects for sale.
