That was Captain Barbossa, the first mate that started the mutiny against Jack in the first film. Played by Geoffrey Rush, who rocks in absolutely everything he's ever been in. To my knowledge, anyway. Like in Finding Nemo, he had to stick his fingers in his mouth to say the line, "I can't go in there!" when he supposedly had the fish in his mouth.

"Captain Barbosa". He was Jack Sparrows first mate until he threw him off the ship and became captain but then at the end of the first one if you remember the fight seen between the two men he kills him which is why he knows how to get to the end of the world where jack sparrow is.

The surprise is that Barbossa is alive, since in the first movie, he was presumably killed.
