The whole set up at Charlton is a joke. They used to have a reputation as a nice steady club who did well each season to stay in the top flight. Curbishley saw the writing on the wall and got out before the decline set in. Dowie was not given long enough and the appointment of Reed was a disaster from day one. What were the board thinking about. I rate Pardew and think he was so unlucky to get the sack at West Ham. I do not think he can save Charlton however and I hope they go down. It will serve the board right although I will be sorry for their fans.

i think that Pardew is a great manager and will do a lot better at Charlton than Les Reed.
Having said that i think that Charlton are still going down, they have too much ground to make up and not enough quality although i will be sad to see them go.
also, i think it is disgraceful of Charlton (who are traditionally a friendly, family club) to sack their manager on Christmas Eve. That is tactless and thoughtless and the board should be ashamed. in footballing terms it was the right thing to do. Reed is unable to motivate and sharpen up his players and this Christmas period is vital for the survival of a team, but from a human perspective it was wrong. And Pardew has the most hectic time of the season to get to know his players so i think the timing was all wrong. Good luck to Pardew anyway.

It had to be done. Reed was getting less out of the players than Dowie even. I live in Charlton and there fans are happy that Reed has gone. Pardew is an experienced manager and was the best option out there.

Alan pardew was great for west ham 2 play off finals and a cup final, its a shame he had to go but i think he didnt realy know his best team anymore at west ham and also maybe lost the dressing room in terms of getting the best out of his players.west ham fans will allways be indebted to his achievements and they will not forget it but alas it was time for him to go....i think it would be a miracle if pards keeps charlton up....but if they were relegated they would come straight back up again because of pards championship experience....i wish pards all the best but not at the cost of my beloved west ham.

pardew is a good manager who was unfairly treated at w.ham, but Charlton is a hard job trying to live up to Alan curbishly

i agree with john he's very arrogant, why would charlton sack dowie then have to pay him up,sack reid then have to pay him up just when he had signed a contract then employ loser pardew on more salary than the previous two.they are mad and going to get relegated for sure

How do players respond to a manager fired by his previous club? I doubt Charlton players would be thrilled.
