Emachines used to be throw away cheapies. However, Gateway purchased the Emachine brand and has improved the emachine tremendously. I have one only because Gateway makes them. Not a bad computer and you can't beat the price. Now if you want the very best and are willing to spend $3,000 or so, then I suggest that route. If all you do is Internet, email and word processing, then the emachine is a good choice. It comes packed with software that is helpful. Best of all the price hovers around $600 or so. I bought mine at Best Buy. It has a 64 bit processor and a bus speed in excess of 2000 MHz. Not bad at all. I think many still believe the emachine is the trash it used to be. Not so. It is a good poor man's computer. It has gillions of ports for every type of multimedia. Can play movies on the computer. Not bad for the money. Not bad at all.

Emachines, Acer, and Gateway are "the laughable three" when it comes to computers. They make crap and sell to suckers who don't know the difference between DDR2 and USB 2.0.

Go to www.stupidcheapcomputers.net and get a system from them. They sell nothing but professional grade stuff and usually for less than the consumer grade crap that you're going to find other places. I've bought 5 systems from them so far and I have never had a single issue with any of them even tho I run a lot of hardcore data all day, every day.

id stay away from vista till its been out a few years ...let them get the bugs worked out of it which i know and have been told
