I think you are right! It also means that New Years Eve is the last holiday in the tradional American holiday season. Besides if the holiday is really New Years Day then a lot of people are owed an extra day off.

I don't believe it is. New Year's Day is the holiday and the 1st one of each year. In many countries, boxing day is a holiday which is the day after Christmas.
