Hi there...it depends on if they are someone you know or a total stranger. If it's a stranger, there's no point in acknowledging them since they really don't care what someone thinks, but if it's someone you care about it's important to point out the positives of their statement or actions and then discuss why those also were not appropriate. They may feel hurt at first, but hopefully will respect the fact you cared enough to say something rather than ignore the problem so they don't repeat their mistakes again repeatedly.

Not sure if you are talking about one to one, or in a crowd.
One on one, I let them rant and rave while staring directly into
their eyes. They eventually get nervous, some even while
drunk, and say, "What?" That's when I say one of two things...
1. "Do you always act this ridiculous or just for this special occassion?" or
2. "Do you really believe in all the BS you just said?"
While in a crowd.....
"Hey, that was really good...now can you do Shakespeare
or how about, "Who's Afraid of Virgina Wolf?"

I try not to take the obvious swings, like inability to spell, incohesion and general misdirection. Was this going somewhere?
