One of the best answers was from Cammie. She is correct when she says that cranberries are acidic and should only be taken prior to U.T.I. and as a preventative because an infection or inflammatory condition thrives in acidic environments.Try and eat and drink more alkaline foods during infections; it helps relieve symptoms. You can look online for lists of foods & drinks to avoid, especially coffee. If you feel any back pain or have even a slight fever you should see a Doc immediately (kidney infect.)Also I have found that garlic pills and dandelion caps. relieve the pressure. Lots & Lots of water. Get Well Soon!

There is no natural 'Cure'. Certainly fluids help and esp Cranberry juice can help by acidifying the milieu in your urinary tract. But to cure the infection, if significant, antibiotics are the only way. Once again not every UTI needs antibiotics to cure it, some will just resolve on their own.

For a UTI I would go straight for an antibiotic and a prescription pill that eliminates the pain (can't remember what it's called, but it makes you pee orange). I've had a bunch of UTIs and the sooner you get rid of it, the better, i.e. prescription!

But natural REMEDIES are the best- anything cranberry to strengthen the bladder and urethra, and vitamin C for the immune system. Cranberry pills/tablets have a higher concentration of cranberry in them as opposed to sugary fruit juices. If you want the juice, make sure it's 100% juice.

While cranberry juice is a diuretic that helps with UTI's, it is not the only diuretic that helps. Diuretics flush the system, getting toxins out that create the UTI. Another AMZING diuretic I have used is dandelion. As far as I know, dandelion has no contradictions leading to complications at all. Heathfood stores sell it in capsule form. Personally what I do is drink cranberry juice, take dandelion as the bottle reccommends, and drink plenty of water. Using all three together is a powerful and safe way of beating a UTI.

Don't know. I always go for the prescription antibiotic and the AZO (pyridium).

However, for preventatives I understand cranberry capsules and black cherry capsules and black cherry tea should help. I am currently taking those.

I still had a UTI though, but that might have been due to the complications caused as a result of a systemic yeast infestation that I am fighting.

I know that all natural seems the way to go but with an infection like this, you need antibiotics.
Without treatment, you could end up with a life threatening kidney infection.

Cranberry juice is too acidic once you have an infection. You can use it to prevent infection but not as a treatment. This is an old wives tale that has been proven incorrect.
Feel better soon.

Cranberry juice and Vitamin C. Cranberry juice is good for cleaning the urine, and Vitamin C creates an acidic environment in the bladder and urinary tract that prevents bacterial growth. They make a perfect couple in combating UTIs.

Sno has the best answer, Cran berries are the best, plenty of fluids to physically flush the infection out too, and up your live culture yogurt intake also. If you just came off of antibiotics this may also be the reason for the UTI, and again cran berries and yogurt. Hope you feel better.
