I don't know...I'm questioning whether this happening currently. My therapist is very direction as to how I should feel about certain things...it's hard for me to decide if this is trying to help me work out my denial or projection?

Transference is simply one or the other, client or therapist, feeling the emotional issues of the other and identifying with them. Very common in therapy. Becomes a problem when the identification becomes too strong and becomes a real issue when one acts on it. Should not, however, that a good therapist will be able to emotionally empathize with the client, understand the client's issues and work with the client, and still keep his/her own identity.
