your motherboard must be compatible with dual core for it to work, I have apentium 4 with HT and it is not compatible with dual core processors. if I try to put in a dual core processor it will not even boot up, I have to stick with the pentium 4, just because the socket is the same does not mean it is compatible. you should check up with the manufacturer to see if you can do it

The architecture of the motherboard on your Dell is not designed for that processor. Your motherboard does not have the right chipset for the Core 2 Duo processor. Replace the motherboard if you really want to use it, or upgrade to the E520.

Only if your motherboard is dual core ready.Check this before you buy 6600 Conroe. I have this processor too, but on MSI 775 Platinum motherboard which is dual core ready.
