Sorry if I wasn't specific enough, by classical I meant composers such as Bach and Beethoven, not classic rock.

ya probably because it lacks a good beat. thats a good theory. but i believe it is because there are no lyrics, for one. kids these days are into the rap and pop music that is popular. most kids just listen to stuff because its popular and they honestly don't know why. me being a metalhead, i know why i listen to metal and i know why i listen to certain bands. and i will listen to whatever i want and not be afraid to say so. thats the thing about metalheads, we aren't afraid to listen to music that even our best friends don't listen to. i think that with the exception of people like me who bleed and live music, young people today just follow trends. i think its sick and dumb. second, i don't believe they appreciate the classical music. i mean, if bach were around today he would be in black sabbath. bethoven would be in led zeppelin. thats what i believe. if you listen to the music you can here where all and i mean all of music today gets it's roots from. all music today derives from classical music. do i listen to it often? no. but i don't hate it. far from that. a guitar solo today is a derivative of a solo or a line played by a violin or a cielo or whatever when classical music began. classical music is not appreciated enough because kids only listen to what is popular and because it doesn't have lyrics. and what is popular is decided by people with no taste in my opinion.

Not mentioned here is total lack of exposure. Most school arts programs eliminated music appreciation courses years ago. Who does young people concerts like Leonard Bernstein did back in the 1960s? Hardly anyone. Yes, classical music does require more attention and active listening, skills that most kids don't have for any form of the arts these days.

NO. When I was a kid I loved it, well some of it. Not that loon Mozart as much or that Haydn. Beethoven rocks. some kids may think it is ancient and doesn't appeal to them for now a lot has to do with lyrics. Sex sells and a lot of teens like music with sexual content and such.

Who says kids hate classical music.

Get an animation of the Sugar Plum Fairy with sound track and see how they like it.

Get an animated version of Peter and the Wolf with soundtrack and see how they like it.

For older kids (14+) get the movie Amadaus and see how they like that sound track.

If they're over 17 try 2001 or A Clockwork Orange in addition to Amadaus

Try the album Switched on Bach for anyone over 14

I'm 25 and never really hated it. I just never really found it as something I had the patience to listen to. Then there isn't a great beat. Someone mentioned Attention Defecit and that could easily be it. I do find some classical to be beautiful, it's just not what I ever chose to listen to.

no i just think that young people are more interested in music that is catchy and has lyrics. They also prefer more up tempo easy to follow music. I think lyrics are the key though most young people also don't like instrumental music. I myself enjoy it once in a while but it is not my favorite. It really depends on my mood. I don't think kids hate classical music, i just think that there not ready for it, plus society makes them look for quick satisfaction rather than sitting back and listening to a long drawn out concerto. hope this helped

dude, who says kids don't like classical music. Most just haven't had enough exposure what with all the commercialization of music these days. But I'm a listener of hardcore punk yet still like classical music, maybe cus my mom always plays it around the house. Its just a question of exposure.

not enough going on . kids are entertained by multi-media, tv for example you got light, picture, words, and music all going on at the same time. just music is a serious downgrade. I also think the lack of steady percussion beat makes it boring to kids. too complicated to follow. switches up too often. and they cant dance to it.

They're unwilling to expand their minds past the MTV-engineered drivel they've been conditioned over the years to like.

Classical music doesn't sell enough ads.
