Some events take me by surprise. Usually I see the larger trend developing, and wonder where the suprise is going to break out next.
I have triggered a few surprises.

Events usually take my by surprise, but it's usually a mild surprise... I haven't been surprised in a long time, and I'm glad because I don't want a bad surprise!
And I'm not really one to spring surprises on events... I'm not really good at that because people figure me out... I don't have a poker face... :D

It depends on the situation. Nothing surprises me anymore since I've learned that I can expect anything to happen.
When I was little, things always had a great impact on me. Now I just kind of take everything as it comes and things don't manage to stir intense emotions in me anymore. There may still be shock, surprise, relief or joy, but they're all hidden under a thick blanket of numbness and lack of reaction.

events take me by surprise, I hate that! I wish I could control everything and when something unexpected happens I feel lost.
